A Long-Awaited Dream Come True
This breeding between Z and Emerald was the fulfillment of a dream I had hoped to realize for many years. Careful planning began well before the trip north to meet Z and his owner, Janice. As Emerald approached her breeding window, I made repeated trips to Pasadena for progesterone testing, waiting for the results that would tell us when the timing was right. Once Emerald was ready, plans quickly came together, and I headed north to meet Z. The journey itself turned into an adventure. Leaving in the early morning darkness, I soon found myself driving through unexpected hail and snow. Visibility became so poor that the lane markings on the freeway nearly disappeared. It was a frightening experience, and I was relieved when a California Highway Patrol officer joined the freeway and helped guide traffic safely through the storm. Despite the challenging drive, I was determined to continue the journey and see the breeding through. Janice was incredibly welcoming and supportive throughout the entire process. Because breeding took place during the COVID pandemic, things did not unfold exactly as expected. When a natural breeding did not occur, we worked with a reproduction veterinarian to give Emerald and Z the best opportunity for success. Janice and I waited outside the clinic while the procedures were performed, and I returned the following day to repeat the process. The miles traveled, the weather, the testing, and the careful timing were all worthwhile as we looked forward to the possibility of puppies from this very special pairing.Meet the Parents

Z brought many qualities to this breeding that I admired, including his temperament, breed type, and pedigree. After meeting him in person, I felt even more confident that he would be a wonderful match for Emerald. Every puppy in this litter was raised inside our home and received daily love, attention, and socialization. Following the Puppy Culture program, the puppies were introduced to new experiences designed to help them grow into confident, well-adjusted companions. Their early weeks included handling exercises, exposure to everyday household sounds, visitors, children, grooming, bathing, and veterinary visits. Our goal was to provide each puppy with a strong foundation as they prepared for life with their future families.From Candy Names to New Families
As the puppies grew, each was given a fun candy-themed nickname that quickly became part of their personality. Watching them develop from tiny newborns into confident young puppies was one of the most rewarding parts of this litter. The greatest reward, however, was matching each puppy with a loving family.
